Tapping on the notification should take you to the actual conversation, not the message list.
When I pull down my notifications and tap on the received message, I'm taken to the apps main message list and then have to tap again on the unread message at the top. It would be nicer if tapping the notification took me directly to the conversation itself.

I think this is so that you will "accidentally" tap the ad screen at the top that appears at approximately.. No, wait.. Exactly when you try to tap on the top message.. considering nowadays EVERYTHING is jockeying for "clicks" for revenue.. isn't it interesting that just as you go to open the message.. it moves out of the way and the ad is there.. You decide..

I would like to go to whichever conversation i last was looking at when i open the app.
For example, i text my friend, 5 minutes later i think of something else to send to sake friend, i have returned to my homescreen, but i have not closed out the app completely or anything. When i tap on the icon, i am sent back to the conversation list instead of that particular conversation that i left the app on.
Idk i know its a small thing but it really gets to me -

Since updating to Marshmallow, it does NOT take you to the appropriate conversation. Mine always ends up in my 1st favorites contact's convo. Also trying to send a text from a contact directly, chomp opens, but 1st favorites convo shows up, not the conversation with the contact that opened chomp...

It already does that… if its multiple texts it obviously sends you to the messages list because it allows you to choose which text you rather read first

This should be an option. Not something that is forced upon users.
