  5. When creating a new message, have a drop down of recent contacts to choose from without having to search for a contact.

    Try deleting a single message from the conversation(s) that have the red exclamation mark. This is a rather inconvenient solution but it worked for me and fortunately I had some texts that I didn't mind deleting.
