Android Marshmallow seems to have resolved this issue for me.

Right now the best I can do to hopefully not miss a message reply is to turn on the "always vibrate" feature. It won't play a notification sound, but it will vibrate.

Not the best option, however, because a) I don't always feel or hear the vibration, and b) it even vibrates when the phone is set to not vibrate.

There's also an option to vibrate according to phone defaults, but that doesn't work because it doesn't vibrate when in a conversation in Chomp.

I'm surprised this does not have more votes! I really want the option of having a notification sound while a conversation is open. Often I miss text replies because I'm multi-tasking and don't hear the vibration. Textra just announced they have started working on this feature. Let's get it for Chomp too!

My stock app stopped providing notifications with the conversation open upon update to Android Lillipop. This is probably what's happening to you as well. I agree that this would be a great fix for Chomp to do. I suggest we consolidate our votes in one place - here is the link with the most votes:

I agree this needs to be fixed! Unfortunately, several people started several threads. Let's consolidate our votes to get this fixed. Here is the link with the most votes:

The ability to have individual ringtones (and some other individualized settings) for each user still exists. Each contact must be set up individually in Chomp and it isn't obvious (and yes, I think it's changed in the short time I've been using Chomp). Here is how you currently set up individualized ringtones in Chomp (you will notice other options too):
    1. If you do not yet have a conversation thread with the contact of interest, text them so you do.
    2. From the Conversations screen, long press on the contact of choice and press "Notifications".
    3. Press "Ringtone".
    4. Now you see the options that are available. Choose either "Ringtones" or "Music" for a list of the tones on your phone.
    5. Select the ringtone you want. You will have to know what the ringtone sounds like based on the file name (since there does not appear to be a way to hear a sample of the sound within Chomp).

I agree this is frustrating and leads to missed messages. Let's consolidate our votes here and hopefully get this issue resolved:

While I agree in principle, there is already an "Only vibrate when volume set to vibrate" option.

The only reason I use the "Always Vibrate" option is because there is currently no other option to receive notifications of any kind while a conversation is open. So when I have a conversation open and I'm multi-tasking I have no other way of knowing when I've received a reply (other than to constantly stare at my phone).

I stopped getting sound notifications while a conversation is open on my stock messaging app (Samsung Galaxy S4) when Android updated to Lollipop. I'm not sure why that change was made, but hoping to find a solution I switched to Chomp. Currently Chomp has the same "feature" of no sound notifications while a conversation is open. While disappointed, I'm keeping the app because of other nice features. There is another feedback suggestion submitted to Chomp to add the option for sound notifications here (please add votes to fix this):
    https://chomp.uservoice.com/forums/221270-feedback/suggestions/9935013-when-in-conversation-there-s-not-a-notification-s

If on the other hand you are not getting any sound notifications from Chomp at any time, check the settings:
    1. Open the Chomp App.
    2. Press menu, then "Settings".
    3. Press "Notifications".
    4. Verify there is a check mark in the Notification box.
    5. Press on "Ringtone" and verify "Silent" is not selected. Here you can choose your phone's Default notification or select any one you want from the Ringtones or Music drop-down menus.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 running Lollipop and I've also noticed this bug occasionally. It doesn't happen consistently, but it is an annoying surprise when it does.

Perhaps we should consolidate our comments and votes on this topic.

I miss this feature too. Android Lollipop removed notifications while conversations are open on my stock messaging app. I'd love it if Chomp would add this option (back) because it's easy to miss a message when the screen times out with a conversation open.
